Melbourne’s hidden coffee laneways

Coffee hopping is a Melbourne-adopted phrase used to describe visiting multiple cafes within the same day. Some of the most romantic cafes in this beautiful city are the ones that are tucked away in unexpected laneways, yet bustling with people. Here are five cafes that are a short walk from the T&G Building to get you started on your coffee hop.

1. The League of Honest Coffee

2. The Hardware Societe

Nestled between large city blocks you’ll find the charming Hardware Societe. With a range of delectable treats and a french-inspired menu, this is the perfect place to catch-up with colleagues for a quick morning meeting.

3. Brother Baba Budan

359 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne

Walking distance from T&G Building: 10 minutes

It’s the little brother of Seven Seeds located in Carlton that is known for its Instagrammable ceiling featuring hanging chairs. The name comes from a 17th-century Sufi, which legend says he smuggled seven seeds of coffee from the Middle East, bringing it to India for the first time. Stop by this hidden cafe to enjoy seasonal coffee and top quality service.

4. Manchester Press

8 Rankins Lane, Melbourne

This industrial, New-York inspired space, which you enter via a graffiti covered garage door, serves coffee by 8oz Coffee Roasters. While you’re there be sure to try their signature bagels, accompanied by a side of pretzels!

5. The Little Mule

19 Somerset Place, Melbourne

Walking distance from T&G Building: 10 minutes

Truly a hidden gem, The Little Mule is a favourite of local creatives and students. With coffee by Proud Mary, this cafe also has a liquor license, so you can enjoy also enjoy a craft beer if you’re visiting later in the day.
