T&G Building in the News: A new luxury retail tenant
11 January 2018
We’re pleased to share that the T&G Building has been featured in the Australian Financial Review, The Australian and The Age as we announce a new luxury retail tenant – Versace.
The articles report our exciting news that Versace will open its first stand-alone Australian store in Pembroke Real Estate’s T&G Building at 161 Collins Street. The iconic Italian fashion brand will take 307 square metres of space with prime Collins Street frontage on a 10 year lease. Versace joins other luxury retailers at the T&G Building, Gucci and Bottega Veneta.
Pembroke Vice President and Head of Australia, Matthew Knight, was interviewed for the stories and highlighted that the three luxury tenancies would make a real statement at the T&G Building’s Collins Street entrance and are befitting the other luxury retail brands in the area.
With the recent arrival of Amazon, the journalists were keen to hear Mr. Knight’s thoughts on how this would impact retailers in Australia.
“I think people who shop for luxury go for the experience and to get looked after. You don’t get that personal touch and attention from shopping on Amazon,” he said.
Details on the building’s refurbishment are also included in each article, highlighting that Pembroke took control of the 1930’s T&G Building in 2015 and will refurbish the ground-floor shops and the office floors above. They include notice that the heritage building’s refurbishment is expected to be completed next year and will have 43,000 square metres of A-grade office space on 10 levels, with campus-style floor plates of up to 4000 square metres.
