Over the past few weeks, the National Gallery of Victoria has celebrated the seventieth anniversary of one of the world’s most prestigious fashion brands – Dior.
Exclusive to Melbourne, the House of Dior exhibition traces the journey of the fashion label through a meticulously-curated timeline of couture clothing. Located five minutes from the T&G building, the display will feature over 140 garments spanning the timeless fashions of 1947 to the modern designs of 2017.
The star of the show is by far the collection of signature ball and evening gowns – some of which you will recognise from gracing the red carpets of many international awards shows.
Australia has enjoyed a long relationship with Dior since the 1948 spring fashion parade at David Jones, which the exhibition pays tribute to with a display dedicated to the evolution of Dior in Australia.
Showcasing work by the fashion house’s illustrious list of designers, including Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, and Maria Grazia Chiuri, House of Dior is a feast for those looking to immerse themselves in the history of fashion.
