Spring Racing Fashion 101

01 November 2017

Arguably the most exciting time of the year – Spring Racing – is upon us. Fashion is at its finest as Melbourne locals flock to the track with those who have flown in for the occasion.

To help you navigate the dress codes, here is a list of must-sees – and must-wears – throughout carnival season.

Derby Day

Saturday 4 November 2017

Only 20 minutes from the T&G Building at Flemington Racecourse

In keeping with tradition, Derby Day is strictly a day for black and white. Women can embrace the monochromatic trend and add some creativity to their outfits with a mix of clashing black and white prints. Men are also encouraged to add their own flair with houndstooth, polka dots and plaid ties and pocket squares with their black suits.

Oaks Day

Thursday 9 November 2017

Flemington Racecourse

Oaks Day is Ladies Day, meaning it’s her time to shine. Embrace this season’s hottest colours like blush, hot pink and white. And while the ladies can encompass all-things ‘Carnival’ such as fascinators and accessories, on this day, men should pare down their suits and stick to a more classic look.

Melbourne Cup

Tuesday 7 November 2017

Flemington Racecourse

Women should celebrate the season and embrace florals, lace and bold colour for the biggest day of the carnival, while men can try on cravats or bowties for size, to add that much-needed touch of flair.

Stakes Day

Thursday 9 November 2017

Flemington Racecourse

Perfect for family outings, Stakes Day is more casual in dress code than the rest of carnival season. Linen jackets and chinos are suitable replacements for suits, and flat sandals or wedges can replace high heels for women.

The Park

Now fashion isn’t the only focus at these events… each day ticketholders will also have access to The Park – a family friendly area boasting fun, fashion and food for everyone to enjoy. Experience an entertaining lineup of musicians each day, including DMA’s, Tkay Maidza, Hot Dub Time Machine, San Cisco, The Preatures, Bag Raiders and Sheppard from 3:00pm – 6:30pm.

Don’t miss Myer Fashions on the Field, Australia’s largest and most prestigious outdoor fashion event, showcasing the hottest fashion with a parade of top outfits competing for the top prize.

Feeling hungry? 8bit, 400 Gradi, DEXTER, Hector’s Deli and Rice Paper Scissors will be on offer at The Park this year.
