Melbourne Fringe Festival

31 October 2016

Between 15 September and 2 October 2016, Melbourne will light up for the city’s 34thFringe Festival.

This year’s theme ‘step into the light’ includes an ambitious series of commissioned artworks, including the festival’s centerpiece, Robin Fox’s Skylight, which sees Melbourne’s iconic cityscape transformed using 12 powerful light beams across the Yarra in an immersive experience encompassing laser and light.

Sky Light sits alongside over 450 events covering performance and visual art, comedy, dance and music, to name a few.

Here are a few of our top picks:

Families will love the comedic charm of circus performers in the must-see Melba Spiegeltent and the world premiere of immersive installation Bellbird by Sue Giles, where kids and families will wander among hundreds of streaming ribbons, ringing attached brass bells with their movements and creating a playful soundtrack. Meanwhile, the fringehub serves as a dazzling meeting place for all ages to soak up the atmosphere.
