You won’t fall short of things to do in Melbourne over the next few weeks!
The biggest names in international comedy will gather together for the highly anticipated Melbourne International Comedy Festival from 29 March to 23 April.
Entering its third decade, this three and a half week event is packed with hilarious comedy, featuring performances suitable for visitors of all ages and offering guarantees to have you rolling in the aisles.
Looking for a quick bite ahead of your show or perhaps a glass of wine? The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival kicks off two days later on 31 March, welcoming approximately 250,000 people to over 200 events across the state to celebrate Victoria’s food and wine industry.
Beginning in 1993 by a small not-for-profit organisation, the festival has grown from only a few small events to Australia’s most distinguished food and wine festival.
Below, we give you a breakdown of the best things to do and see at both festivals… only minutes from the T&G Building.
Melbourne International Comedy Festival
1. Paul Foot

Paul Foot is an English comedian people can’t get enough of, with raving reviews from Time Out, Herald Sun, Independent and The Scotsman. With musings, rants, ‘disturbances’ and apparent aversion to pop culture, he’s a stand out comedian. His unhappiness with the price increase of cheap Chinese takeaway and his theory that wheat intolerance led to the many deaths of soldiers back in history will have you thinking… and laughing. It’s definitely a do-not-miss!

2. Ruby Wax

A household name, Ruby Wax is sassy, fun and smart. The Oxford graduate and author of bestseller A Guide To Mindfulness — A Forum For Discussion, gives a tour of the mind – “how to use it, not lose it” – based on her own experience.

3. Class Clowns

The search is on for Australia’s funniest teens… and Class Clowns is calling on students from across Australia to discover their skills in comedy, from sketch acts to stand up. Comedy workshops and a national comedy competition aims to engage young comedians in front of a wide audience.

1. The House of Food and Wine Opening Party

2. La Vendimia at San Telmo

Take a sensory sipping tour through the incredible wine regions of Argentina, from Salta to Mendoza, as you celebrate San Telmo’s fourth year of involvement in the Food and Wine Festival. San Telmo’s Chef Steve Clark is matching the food to the drinks, a twist on the traditional approach to food and wine pairing, which is bound to result in some unique recipes.

Movida Next Door, 164 Flinders Street

One of the most iconic parts of Melbourne is the bustling laneways that run thorough the city, filled with graffiti, restaurants and dive bars. This event is part of the ‘Crawl n Bite’ series and includes two of Melbourne’s famous laneways, Hosier Lane and ACDC Lane. Start the crawl off at Movida, just behind the T&G Building, and enjoy a Melbourne inspired food and drink pairing experience.
